Drake Lets Rolling Stone Preview His Take Care Album

Drake Lets Rolling Stone Preview His Take Care Album
Drake recently let Rolling Stone preview what he has currently recorded for his upcoming Take Carealbum, dropping on October 24th. You can read what RS said about the album below, including hearing a song with Rick Ross titled “Free Spirit” and a song with Lil Wayne titled “The Real Her“.
“I hate singles,” Drake says. It’s a funny thing to hear from the rapper behind hits like “Best I Ever Had” and “Find Your Love,” but he says he’s always felt this way – now more than ever, as he puts the finishing touches on his second full-length LP, Take Care (due October 24th). “With this album, I want to tell a whole story,” he adds. “I don’t want people to just hear a piece and judge the album on that.”
Drake is home in Toronto, recording at his longtime producer Noah “40″ Shebib’s studio. The vibe is industrial yet cozy: exposed brick, low lighting, plenty of high-grade weed and virtually no decoration aside from a vinyl copy of U.K. dubstep crooner James Blake’s debut on a windowsill. “This is home,” says Drake, wearing a T-shirt, black jeans and work boots. “If I’m in a big expensive studio, it starts messing with my head about what kind of music I should be making.”
To a degree, that’s what happened with his 2010 debut, Thank Me Later, which sold 1.4 million copies and transformed Drake from mixtape phenom to platinum-certified star. “In no way am I not proud of it,” he says, “but I think I got caught up in making it seem big and first-album-ish. I was a bit numb, a bit disconnected from myself. I wasn’t able to slow down and realize what was going on around me.”
He’s taking a more deliberate approach with Take Care, toiling over the sort of intricately observed lyrics that made his breakthrough mixtape, 2009′s So Far Gone, so thrilling. Tales of next-level conspicuous consumption (he shouts out celeb chef Thomas Keller’s French Laundry restaurant, where he dined on a recent Napa Valley wine-tasting trip) butt up against memories of middle-class striving (he references renting luxury cars he couldn’t afford). Adds Drake, “The whole process has been about slowing life down and really pinpointing emotions.”
He cues up several tracks in various states of completion, all of which sit squarely in the sparse, somber register that’s become his trademark. “Shot for Me,” the likely album opener, is a marvel of melancholy bravado: He sings “Bitch, I’m the man” in a moan that undercuts the brag, over a beat (courtesy of Shebib) that pairs aching synthesizer notes with an exhilarating barrage of high-hats. Other highlights include “Free Spirit,” featuring Rick Ross and the refrain “Tat my name on you so I know it’s real,” and “The Real Her,” a narcotically woozy love song with detuned pianos and a Lil Wayne guest spot. Drake is also looking forward to collaborating with Abel Tesfaye, a.k.a. buzzy R&B gloomster the Weeknd — and, if he gets his wish, veteran beatsmith DJ Premier, Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch, and the xx’s Jamie Smith. “No matter who’s on it, it goes through the Drake filter,” Shebib says. “He’s so hands-on about how everything sounds.”
Many rappers tout their effortlessness, but Drake is proudly perfectionist. Several of the verses he’s written for the album are still missing their last two bars. “If your writing is strong enough, those lines dictate what the hook is gonna be about, how you’re gonna go into the second verse,” he says. “You need the exit moment, you know? ‘And the crowd goes wild…’”

MIA 1 M.I.A. 27 (A Song Dedicated To Amy Winehouse and Others Who Died At 27)
“27″ is a song M.I.A. recorded long before Amy Winehouse’s death, but it seems appropriate that she release this one today and dedicate it to Amy. If you head over to M.I.A.’s Soundcloud page, you can see the lyrics, along with a message:
Dedicated to all my friends that died at 27.
On Twitter, Maya added: “i recorded this song B4ickileekx and never put it out. its a unfinished demo. R.I.P A.M.Y.”

Rihanna Has A Day Off In NYC

Rihanna took a day off in NYC and looked super casual doing it. This look was a bit different from the usual sexy attire she dons.
This is the same hat she was pictured in the other day when she was grabbing her mom’s boob. Seems like it’s a favorite of Riri’s lately.
I guess this is how you kick it on your day off. It doesn’t matter what you put on as long as your relaxed and Rihanna looks to be doing just that.
If I didn’t know any better, I would venture to say she was posing. For what? Who knows. While Rihanna took the day off in NYC, her next concert dates are going to be in Philadelphia in tonight and Boston tomorrow. How do you feel about Rihanna’s mix match, casual outfit? Would you wear this out?

Chris Brown Says He’s Being Set Up By Neighbor

Chris Brown says one of his neighbors at his West Hollywood condo is out to get him. The pop superstar sent out several tweets on Thursday claiming someone in his building carved his initials into an elevator to make him look like a “reckless” 22-year-old. It was reported earlier this week that some of Chris’ neighbors don’t like living by him because he parks in handicapped spots, plays loud music all the time, and has dogs running up and down the hallways.
Chris says the parking spaces were assigned to him when he purchased the condo, adding that they have been painted over with “handicap and no parking signs.” The singer goes on to say that he’s hardly ever home, so “these stories and accusations are so childish.”
Chris’ attorney, Mark Geragos, recently told TMZ.com that Chris is in litigation over the parking spots, and will be fighting the tickets he received by parking there.

Drake Pitches For The Cleveland Indians

To help celebrate Cleveland’s 215th birthday, rapper Drake went to the Progressive Stadium (home of the Cleveland Indians) and threw a pitch. Drake even had his own personalized Indians jersey with his name on the back and the number one. While pitching, his hit song I’m On One could be heard playing in the background.  While in the city of Cleveland, Drake also was the headline of a concert that featured Cleveland artist Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. While Drake’s appearance did bring a lot of excitement and a few extra fans, he didn’t bring the Indians their win. The game ended 3-0 with the Indians losing to the Chicago White Sox.

EMINEM’S RECOVERY SETS DIGITAL SALES RECORD

Eminem‘s latest album, Recovery, has been in stores for over a year but it’s still selling good. The album has become the first album to sell over a million digital sales. Congrats, Eminem!
“Recovery selling one million digital albums is an incredible achievement by an incredible artist. I have had the pleasure of working with Eminem throughout the course of his career, and I’m delighted to be a part of yet another milestone on his amazing journey,” says Steve Berman.
“We are thrilled to congratulate Eminem on the history-making digital sales success of Recovery. Over the years we’ve made a concerted effort to engage Em’s online fan base so this achievement is especially rewarding. Eminem made an amazing album with Recovery and the fans responded in record numbers,” says Paul Rosenberg.

Chris Brown Makes Billboard History

Chris Brown recently debuted three singles simultaneously and all have made the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts; his features on Ace Hood’s Body 2 Body (No. 73), The Game’s Pot of Gold (No. 75) along with his own single Wet The Bed (No. 89). Chris Brown is the third artist in Billboard History to chart 3 titles simultaneously. Rappers Lil  Wayne and Gucci Mane both debuted 3 tracks simultaneously in 2009. Chris currently has seven singles on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. Well Team Breezy, it looks like we’re doing our job (as always). Way to go Chris!
